World of wine shows resilience in 2024

Despite unprecedented climatic challenges, the global wine sector proved remarkably resilient in 2024. Extreme weather led to a historic low in production - at 225.8 million hectoliters, the lowest level in over 60 years. Nevertheless, the industry adapted quickly: Continued demand for quality wines kept the average export price stable at a record EUR 3.60/liter. The global export value remained correspondingly strong at EUR 35.9 billion.

Some markets also developed positively in terms of consumption. While global consumption fell slightly to 214.2 million hectolitres, countries such as Spain, Portugal and Hungary recorded growth. Italy consolidated its leading role - both in terms of production (+15.1%) and exports, particularly thanks to the ongoing Prosecco boom.

These figures give us confidence for the next edition of Expovina: they underline the adaptability and enduring fascination of wine culture worldwide.
